At The Cambridge Sock Company, we make natural fibre socks for people who take comfort seriously. Based in the countryside just outside Cambridge, we specialise in alpaca, merino, mohair and cashmere socks that keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable all day.
We believe true everyday luxury starts from the ground up. Our socks are breathable, temperature‑regulating and beautifully soft, so whether you're walking the dog, hiking in the hills or winding down for bed, your feet stay happy, naturally.
Our Story
Some people collect stamps – founder Nick Wallace collects socks. What began as a lifelong hunt for the perfect pair turned into The Cambridge Sock Company: an independent British brand dedicated to making better socks from the finest natural fibres.
From the family farm just outside Cambridge, on the Hertfordshire–Cambridgeshire border, Nick balances life with full-blood Wagyu and traditional Hereford cattle, Angora goats and bees with sourcing high‑quality fleeces and yarns from trusted farmers and artisans around the world. Our core range is then spun, dyed and knitted by expert mills in Britain to create socks that are as durable as they are comfortable.
Four Fibres, Four Jobs
Most socks are made to be replaced. Ours are made to be worn.
We build every pair around a natural fibre — alpaca, merino, mohair or cashmere — because natural fibre does a job synthetic can't fake: it breathes when your feet get warm, it holds its shape wash after wash, and it doesn't leave you smelling like a gym bag by lunchtime.
- Alpaca — exceptionally warm for its weight and kind to sensitive skin, built for cold feet and long days.
- Merino — breathable and moisture‑wicking, the reliable all‑rounder for walking, working and everyday wear.
- Mohair — hard‑wearing and naturally odour‑resistant, our pick for boots, hikes and anyone hard on their socks.
- Cashmere — the indulgent one. Cloud‑soft, made for evenings when your feet have earned a rest.
Built to last, not just to look good:
Cushioned where it counts and ribbed to stay up. Most styles include some polyamide (and sometimes a touch of elastane) for stretch, strength and shape retention; each product page lists the exact blend.
Care, properly explained:
Alpaca and cashmere: hand wash in cool water. Mohair and merino: machine washable on a wool or delicate cycle at 30°C. Skip the fabric conditioner and tumble dryer, and always dry flat.
Made in Britain, Sourced With Care
We design in Cambridge and knit our core range in traditional British mills with skilled craftspeople. Our alpaca, merino, mohair and cashmere are carefully sourced from farms in Peru, South Africa and the UK that prioritise animal welfare and quality.
We believe in “buy better, buy fewer”: socks that earn their place in your drawer by performing season after season.

We want our socks to do more than keep your feet warm. Each year, we donate a percentage of our sales to Brooke, the UK‑based international charity improving the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world.
