The Story Behind Our Socks: Handcrafted in Britain, Designed in Cambridgeshire

Every pair of Cambridge Sock Company socks starts a long way from a shop shelf. It starts with a family-run business just outside Cambridge, in rural Cambridgeshire, deciding that the socks most people wear simply weren't good enough — and that natural fibres, done properly, deserved a proper British brand behind them.

Three years before our first sale

We didn't rush this. It took three years of development — sourcing the right alpaca, merino, mohair and cashmere fibres, testing knit structures, and rejecting sample after sample — before we were satisfied enough to put our name on a single pair. That patience is why our socks feel the way they do: it was never about getting to market fast, it was about getting it right.

Why Britain

We handcraft our socks with a traditional British mill that has generations of hosiery expertise and access to some of the finest natural fibre yarns. It's a partnership built on shared standards, not just a supply contract — we work closely with them on every new style, and it shows in the finishing detail, from hand-linked toes to reinforced heels.

Family-run, from farm to foot

Being family-run means we make decisions the way a family does: carefully, and for the long term. We source natural fibres ethically, we don't chase fast-fashion sock trends, and we'd rather sell one pair that lasts three winters than three pairs that fall apart in one.
