Our Fibres

At The Cambridge Sock Company, we work with natural fibres chosen for how they feel, wear and last — not because they are fashionable, but because they do the job beautifully.

Our socks are knitted in British mills from fibres sourced and selected with care, so comfort never has to come at the cost of craft. These are the fibres we keep coming back to.

Alpaca

Soft, light and remarkably warm.

Alpaca is one of our favourite fibres for socks because it gives warmth without unnecessary weight. Its fibre structure helps trap pockets of warmth, while the smooth handle sits gently against the skin. Naturally low in lanolin, it is a good choice when you want softness, comfort and a lighter feel than traditional wool.

  • Warm without feeling bulky
  • Smooth and gentle against the skin
  • Naturally breathable and comfortable

Mohair

Strong, smooth and made for hard-working feet.

Mohair comes from the Angora goat and is known for its strength, smoothness and durability. It has a silky handle, holds its shape well, and works beautifully in socks made for walking, boots and long days on your feet. We use it when we want a fibre that feels soft but works hard.

  • Naturally strong and hard-wearing
  • Smooth, silky feel
  • Breathable and moisture-managing

Merino Wool

Fine, breathable and naturally regulating.

Merino wool is finer than traditional wool, which makes it soft and comfortable for everyday wear. It helps regulate temperature, keeping feet warm in colder weather and comfortable when conditions change. It also manages moisture well, making it a reliable choice for walking socks, everyday socks and all-season comfort.

  • Fine and soft against the skin
  • Naturally temperature-regulating
  • Helps manage moisture and odour

Cashmere

Light, warm and quietly luxurious.

Cashmere is the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat, prized for its softness and light warmth. It brings a gentle, airy kind of comfort — warm enough for slow mornings and quiet evenings, without feeling heavy. We use it for socks made to feel special.

  • Exceptionally soft and light
  • Warm without bulk
  • A rare fibre, used with care
